In Memoriam : Nancy Heron
Nancy J. Heron - age: 67
(February 15, 1945 to March 29, 2012 ) Resident of Norwalk, Connecticut Visitation Information: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 2, 10 AM at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd., Norwalk. Interment will be private. Nancy’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Sunday from 3-7 Pm. Obituary: Nancy J. Heron, age 67, of Norwalk, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 29, 2012. Nancy was born in Boston, MA on February 15, 1945, daughter of the late James I. Heron and the late Gertrude Ann White Heron. She was a graduate of the Framingham Teacher’s College and received her Master’s degree in teaching at Fairfield University. Nancy worked for many years in the Stamford School System, first as a teacher and later as a vice-principal. After her retirement she continued her life’s work in teaching at the Sylvan Learning Center. She was a member of AAUW and the Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) Sorority and enjoyed tennis, golf and bike riding, which she did all over the world. Nancy is survived by her siblings David B. Heron (Lynda Hersey) of Reading, MA, Peggy Walsh (Tom) of Westfield, NJ, Julie Cooney of Riverdale, IL, Rosemary Mahoney (Daniel) of Natick, MA, and Maura Sharp (Kent) of Acton, MA, and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 2, 10 AM at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd., Norwalk. Interment will be private. Nancy’s family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Sunday from 3-7 Pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to AAUW Women’s Scholarship (aauw.org/learn/awards/AAUW-Local-Scholarships-Clearinghouse.cfm), The Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority (alphadeltakappa.org/s/1292/start.aspx) or a favorite charity in her name.

I will remember Nancy as a consistently cheerful and positive administrator at Dolan Middle School. She was helpful to me with good advice about my work including an invaluable suggestion for arranging my music room for better efficiency and flow of traffic. My condolences to Nancy's family. I met Nancy in 1969 when I assigned to Stevens School as ass't. princ. She greeted me with open arms. She was the consumate professional teacher, relating to children, parents and staff with respect and dignity. Nancy was a big part of the sense of community pervading Stevens. God bless her.

Nancy was an inspiration to our educational sorority group, Alpha Delta Kappa. She always volunteered to run and organize many of the group's activities, and she always did it with a smile on her face. She was an amazing assistant principal at Dolan Middle School in Stamford and everyone always spoke so highly of her. Joe and I will miss her very much. We feel blessed to have had her as a friend...

I am so sorry to hear about Nancy's passing. I remember her from 1st grade on. She started off as a teacher, but then, thru AAUW, she became a family friend throughout the years. Her smile was infectiuos and I will always remember a twinkle in her eyes!
